FOX FARM BREWERY

I took a beautiful, early autumn Saturday drive down to Salem, CT’s Fox Farm Brewery in early October of 2019. I’m somewhat embarrassed to say that to this day, it’s one of only two Connecticut breweries I’ve visited, along with Oxford’s OEC. It’s safe to say that they’ve left a good impression on the state’s brewing scene.

Opened in Spring of 2017 on a 30-acre farm, the property is tucked away on the bend of a sleepy, non-assuming countryside road. Pulling into the gravel entryway unveils the gorgeous converted 1960s dairy barn, stone fruit orchard, and picturesque New England farm setting.

The taproom is cozy, full of natural light-soaked wood features, and absolutely spotless. It’s apparent that the brewery will age gracefully into this space, becoming even cozier as it is lived in for a few more years. Their cans were displayed prominently, donning gorgeous label designs from the talented crew at Young Jerks.

I was greeted by a wide variety of draft and to-go options that spanned the style spectrum. While taking in the property, I enjoyed small pours of Scatter, a tasty example of the near-extinct American Brown Ale and Husk, a mixed-culture Grisette that was stunning. I left with a nice mix, which I slowly worked my way through one the following few weeks as the Fall temperatures dropped.
